The Ministry of Finance announced Wednesday that it has started an information and verification campaign on a sample of 447 firms that sell food, beverages, and tobacco, concerning the misleading and comparative advertising.
In case of any violations of the legislation in the field, there will be sanctions applied, warns the ministry.
The verification program, says a release of the ministry, aims to inform the sellers about the legal provisions on the misleading and comparative advertising and the unfavorable consequences. The ministry also analyses the messages of the advertising campaigns that these companies run online, in print media, on billboards, by brochures, leaflets, etc. Sanctions could be applied for the breaches of the relevant legislation identified.
The information and verification actions are conducted by representatives of the specialized structures from all regional public finance departments at the national level and similar information and verification actions are also to be launched in the next period in the following areas: pharmaceutical retail, activity of travel agencies and retail trade in non-specialized stores selling predominantly non-food products.
