The Ministry of European Funds has taken out Iasi-Tg. Mures highway project from the Large Infrastructure Operational Programme 2021-2027 and the Ministry of Transport already speaks of this project as a „connectivity alternative” to A13 Bacau-Brasov.

The Ministry of Transport organized a working group meeting on Thursday, in which it proposed a „debate” on an analysis commissioned in the spring by the Ministry of Transport regarding the most „cost-effective” way of crossing the Carpathians from Moldova to Transylvania. The solution brought forward: a highway Bacau-Brasov.

President Iohannis recently promulgated the law on the construction of Ungheni-Iasi-Tg.Mures highway.

The association „Moldova wants the highway” participated in the meeting organized by the Ministry of Transport. Dan Radu, a member of the association, writes on Facebook the conclusions he reached after this working meeting:

“The meeting had one purpose, very badly concealed – to remove Iasi-Tirgu Mures highway from the priority list!

Therefore, they proposed a „debate” on the analysis commissioned in spring by the Ministry of Transport regarding the most „cost-effective” way of crossing the Carpathians from Moldova to Transylvania.

A surprising review, which takes place two years after the approval of the Transport Master Plan of Romania, a document made after studies and analyses that took several years and which clearly determines the most efficient and priority routes of development!

In the draft of the „analysis” in question, they used BEI PASSA experts as „cover” and gave them FALSE working information, a matter as criminal as possible.

The whole thing itself is quite a transparent distraction, by the way.

Let’s make it clear: in order to develop, Moldova needs to urgently connect to A3 Motorway through Tirgu Mures point; the road is open from there to Central Europe. It is the only useful connection. The unique one.

Not through Bacau-Brasov way, proposed and supported by Sova, which leads nowhere and makes a connection to nothing.

In order to build afterwards a highway from Brasov to Sibiu or Tirgu Mures to make the connection to Europe, it will take at least 10 more years.

Not to mention that this crossing way would leave at least half of the region isolated – Suceava, Botosani, Iasi, Vaslui, even Neamt.

The PSD group in Bacau, headed by Senator Dragos Benea and with Lucian Sova at the Ministry, for obscure reasons wants to dynamite the development of the whole Moldova by pushing forward, with false arguments, the Bacau-Brasov connection, on the idea that it would be shorter and cheaper.

They do not understand a simple and useful thing – if the highway Iasi-Tirgu Mures (A8) is made, Bacau will be the most advantaged large city in Moldova.

It will be on A7 Ploiesti-Suceava highway route and only 70 km from the road junction of A7 with A8, in Pascani area, from where it can be urgently connected directly to Europe. Brasov is a big trick even for Bacau inhabitants.

We repeat: this highway is on a secondary corridor, Iasi-Tirgu Mures is on the main European corridor.

The first one does not go anywhere, the second connects ALL Moldova to the European transport network in Tirgu Mures through A3, already in an advanced construction phase.

Conclusions following the meeting:

  1. A8 highway is just a „line on the map,” according to a panel specialist.
  2. A8 highway is no longer a priority in POIM 2014-2020.
  3. A8 motorway appears on the map of the Ministry of Transport in POIM 2021-2027 as a „connectivity alternative” to A13 Bacau-Brasov.
  4. The Sibiu-Brasov highway appears on POIM II, 2021 – 2027, as already built, operating, although we do not even have feasibility studies!!!
  5. In POIM II 2021 – 2027, A8 highway no longer appears. SO A8 HIGHWAY IS HISTORY, from the point of view of the Transport Ministry.
  6. Brasov – Bacau highway appears as a project in POIM II, replacing A8!

Yesterday I found out what I have already intuited and I have drawn public signals at the time – the analysis made by BEI Pass, commissioned by the Ministry of Transport, WAS THE FACADE TO JUSTIFY A13 HIGHWAY and include it in POIM and thus eliminate A8 from POIM and the funding.

And since Ungheni-Iasi-Tg Mures sector is still at the Prognosis Commission, and even though the law recently promulgated by President Iohannis moves it back to the Transport Ministry but nobody is rushing to do that, we can consider that A8 project is AS IF IT IS BURIED.

In the repeated interventions of „Moldova Wants Highway” Association and the „Association for Infrastructure” at yesterday’s meeting, we were told that in fact „we are only testing the alternatives” and there is nothing is set in stone. A lie, in fact.

FINAL CONCLUSION – there is an operation well underway supported by the hidden interests of a PSD gang to modify the priorities of Transport Master Plan (negotiated for almost two years with the EU), and side-line A8 highway.

These days

  1. we will inform the European Commission, Commissioner Corina Cretu, of the new situation;
  2. We will inform Romanian MEPs who support our actions that there is a mockery taking place that does not help Moldova’s development in any way but blocks it;
  3. We will send a warning to the EIB that the institution is being used, by being provided with false information, in order to support the games of a political group;
  4. We will send the Ministry of Transport a warning that they use false information in official reports, and fill criminal complaints;
  5. We will send a warning to the Prime Minister of Romania that a ministry under her authority uses false information to block the development of Moldova;
  6. a notification in the same sense will be sent to the Romanian Presidency;
  7. We very thoroughly prepare ourselves with our lawyers to attack any attempt to postpone, not implement the law on A8.”
