Finance Minister Eugen Teodorovici said at a press conference held in Bistrita that „a mechanism of this type is in progress”, a mechanism on tax amnesty, but told that only from now on it will be discussed within the PSD-ALDE coalition and the Government.
„I shall not give you many details on this idea now,” said the minister at the press conference organized by PSD Bistrita Nasaud branch.
„We shall discuss in the coming days within the coalition and at the government level to see exactly if such a measure can be applied and what the effects will be. It has nothing to do with President Iohannis. Besides, he is not a subject to a possible amnesty because those revenues were from renting,” said Teodorovici without offering any further details.
The subject of tax amnesty has re-emerged on the public agenda on Thursday when PSD President Liviu Dragnea publicly expressed his discontent regarding the fact that the Ministry of Finance and ANAF do not recover the money that President Klaus Iohannis allegedly owes. „I am also asking now Mr. Misa, who is the president of ANAF, whether this institution and sometimes the Ministry of Finance are going to recover the hundreds of thousands of euros from President Iohannis. I am now publicly asking them, if they have so much money in the budget and they do not need them, maybe we can decide a tax amnesty if there is too much money and they do not have any more space in the trunks from the treasury or from Mr. Mavrodin,” said Dragnea.
Just a few tens of minutes after his party chief’s statement, Minister Eugen Teodorovici told he considers the tax amnesty idea „very good”.
A tax amnesty was also promoted by Ponta government in 2015 when the Finance Minister was also Eugen Teodorovici. Then, some abusive fiscal obligations set by the tax authority have been cancelled, as well as the obligations arising from redefining the independent self-employment as a dependent activity or from imposing health contributions on low incomes.
A „niche” tax amnesty was also approved by the PSD government in 2014 only for retirees.
